Jonah Myerberg co-founded Desktop Metal in October 2015 to address the gap in affordable and convenient 3D metal printing technologies. He observed that while 3D printing was used for prototypes, the materials weren't suitable for real designs, and existing metal 3D printing was too expensive. Myerberg aimed to make metal 3D printing accessible for rapid prototyping and eventually mass production.
