Ritik Malhotra emphasizes the importance of hiring the best talent for iconic company growth. He shares insights from his experiences at Box and Brex, and in building his new venture, Savvy Wealth.
I think the the more and more after doing building these companies, especially also seeing this at Brex as well, where we were Brex was growing extremely quickly and I think this the amount of care on hiring the best people and finding them and and really finding the right culture fits was actually such an important lesson. I think there was a very similar concept here where, you know, we had to get all these things done really quickly and and so there was a tendency to say, "Hey, just hire quickly. Let's hire this person they seem good and and move on." But actually had to practice actually saying no and keeping the bar high. Which was an interesting reversal of events, but again similar kind of psychology of just saying it's fine. Being patient is actually going to help because finding the best person is actually worth it. And you know, we we've I I think if I just take an example of
hiring the the the executive team that's still here to today, it's you know, some folks like our our CTO was the first CTO at Karma. Or our head of sales was the first head of sales at Compass. And these individuals had had very strong track records of of building these iconic companies from, you know, near inception all the way to, you know, hundreds of millions of recurring revenue. And so they the the there was no shortage of options that they had. And I think those are the people that that I when I was talking to them, I was learning things and soaking things in during those initial conversations. And I said, "These are the people that I would want to be surrounded by." And just, you know, the the we we had such good chemistry of working together. Um and and you know, I think that that was the the the thinking of let's build a team with these individuals. And then that's what we've
taken that practice, you know, all these other functions as well.
