About Joao Mendes

João Ricardo Mendes is a Brazilian entrepreneur who co-founded Hurb (formerly Hotel Urbano), one of Brazil's largest online travel agencies, in January 2011. He served as the company's CEO until Hurb's travel agency license was revoked by Brazil's Ministry of Tourism on April 14, 2025, leading to the website being frozen and the company being barred from selling travel packages. Mendes was later arrested in April 2025 for theft of art works at a luxury hotel and shopping complex in Rio.
