HubSpot is a sales and marketing CRM. Some founders repurpose it for investor tracking.
HubSpot is the default CRM for company-wide sales and marketing. Founders who already run their pipeline there sometimes reuse it for investor tracking. This is when that works and when it doesn't.
Sales pipelines with hundreds of deals, marketing automation with drip sequences, customer support ticketing. It's a general-purpose CRM sized for a growing sales org.
Investor matching against your stage and sector, deck scoring, outreach anchored to a specific investor's thesis, pipeline stages that map to how rounds close, and coaching for the specific pitch on Thursday. None of these are what HubSpot does natively.
If you're already paying for a Starter or Pro plan, you can build a custom pipeline for investors in a few hours. Free-tier HubSpot works fine as a basic contact database. Beyond that, you're customizing a tool designed for a different job.
HubSpot's free tier is genuinely free for basic CRM use. Paid tiers escalate quickly — Sales Hub Pro is priced for a real sales team. For a founder-only fundraise, a fundraise-specific tool is usually cheaper per month than HubSpot Pro and does more of the fundraise-specific work.
Keep HubSpot for revenue-side pipelines (customers, partnerships, hiring). Run the raise in a fundraise-specific tool. Sync closed investors into HubSpot as long-term contacts once the round is done.
