George Maxwell is the Chief Executive Officer and Director of VAALCO Energy, Inc., an independent exploration and production company in West Africa. He assumed the CEO role on April 12, 2021, after serving as a Non-Executive Director since June 2020. Before joining VAALCO, he founded Eland Oil & Gas Plc. in 2009, serving as CEO from 2014 to 2019, CFO from 2010 to 2014, and as a board member until its acquisition by Seplat Petroleum Development Company Pls. in 2019. Maxwell has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including executive leadership positions and M&A activities.
